UTI after contrast for CT scan?

Postby MKW » Thu Dec 20, 2018 3:31 pm

I have suffered with SIBO and PI-IBS for some time since having recurrent c Diff.
My GI doc ordered an abdominal CT scan which I had done yesterday and I drank oral contrast and received iv iodine contrast.
I felt fine yesterday after the procedure.
Today I woke up with rapid onset of UTI symptoms.
I just went to my PCP and tested positive for leukocytes.
They are doing a culture and have prescribed Macrobid for now.
Has anyone ever heard of the contrasts for a ct scan prompting a UTI?
Note, I have never had a UTI that required treatment and am 47 (female).
This seems a crazy coincidence!!!
If anyone has ever heard of this happening to someone please let me know. Thanks! -Melanie

You should wait for the culture to come out until you start taking the antibiotic.

Maybe the iodine simply irritated your bladder and it will pass. Wait for the results as Georgina suggested.

Melanie, drink a lot of water and take Dmanose. I did had symtoms and up in ED and PCP office . Is more then likely irritation. Do not hurry to start antibiotic.

No, although anything is possible I have never heard of contrast causing an infection. I totally agree with Georgina and would wait for results of the culture. The specimen also could have been contaminated.
