Probably the IV version and a Dr did not keep a check on blood concentration.
There's many cases like that.
Can you paste a link to the story?

It just kills me that some people in the throes of a c diff infection have to worry about or struggle with the cost of medication to treat it. :(

It's a vicious circle.
If the pharm companies can't sell at a high price they don't invest in developing new meds.

How much do you consider a vaccine will cost if it ever comes out?
It will cost no more to produce than a tetanus jab probably just a few $ (clostridium tettani, yes it's in the same family).
But it costs $billions to develop and there's been a lot of failures.
For many years it's going to be $3000 plus a shot.
Pharm companies have to pay shareholders.
They don't operate for the benefit of patients.
It's wrong but it's how the medical world operates and it's the best we have got.

Yes, well. See market failures, role of government in correcting such...

So much money gets donated to medical and medicine research and Its a shame to think that lifesaving medicines are a question of profit over wellness.
Pharmaceutical companies should be non profits for the betterment of society.
Our lives should be seen as more than what it is.
As someone with inhalers, epi pens, c diff meds I find It's ridiculous. I haven't gotten to buy new clothes that fit from the weight I've lost, shoes, go to dinner, have cable tv, buy the good bread at the store, etc etc etc from all of the medical costs I've had this past year and I HAVE insurance. Sure those are all luxuries I suppose and lucky to have what I do have but it's a little excessive.
Now I'm ranting. Hopefully one day it changes
