Re: Allis
Thanks for all of the well-wishes. Surgery last Friday seemed to go well. I've been back from the hospital since Monday. Good early mobility (or so I'm told), but it's a nuisance have to stagger around the house on crutches or a walker and unable to bend to pick things up, carry coffee cup from one room to the next w/out help, etc. All relatively minor, transient complaints, I realize.

Re: Allis
Nice to hear your back home and doing well.
Hospitals kick out patients fast now.
Not long ago you would be in for at least a week and maybe two.
It's the same with maternity units.
In the UK they discharge after 4 hours but when my kids were born in the 80s it was a week in hospital.
The main reason is the risk of HAIs.

Re: Allis
Thanks, Beth and Roy. No HAI so far (knock on wood); not sure what average duration is for risk of this. I am walking well, increasingly with crutches and less with walker. Unfortunately, cold, borderline-wintery weather is about to descend ... quite early for this. I had always hoped to avoid a wintertime recovery, which poses ice danger. And I will have to rely on a stranger -- aide from private-care company -- to drive me anywhere I may have to go, as my sister is returning home on Saturday. Perhaps I can resume driving at the four-week follow-up or soon thereafter, as I'm pretty certain I won't be taking any of the prescribed opioids by then. (Though may need them, depending on election outcome!)
