Abdominal Pain...not cramps

Postby Christy » Sat Feb 04, 2006 12:42 pm

Hi Everyone,

Just needed to ask something, I hope someone can help. I was wondering if other people suffering with C diff have had pain in the abdomen...? I don't mean cramping, I mean like if you push on your abdomen it really hurts? I have been taking Flagyl for about a week, and the pain had lessened, but today when I got up, my whole midsection was very sore to the touch. Has anyone experienced this, is it normal ??? Any comments are appreciated, I'm quite scared
Thanks.

I've had that discomfort for a long time. Way before c diff. Like if my daughter gets on top of my stomach or my cat, i can't stand it. I thought it might be a cyst or tumor or something. I've got it checked, with a ultrasound but they found nothing. It's specially on my left side. I hope the doctors didn't miss anything. One of them told me it was constipation. Before c diff i wouldn't use the b-room but every 2 days maybe. So i don't know about your case. Sounds like you been having this only after c diff, which i think it's normal because your insides are sensitive.

Christy,
Many people complain of abdominal pain such as cramping, etc. I'm not sure why the outside of your stomach is sensitive. It doesn't sound serious, but I'm not a doctor. Do check with your doc.

Have you tried a heating pad? (Check out with doc.) Flagyl can have some strange side effects; this could be one. Call your pharmacist since it's the weekend and ask about this symptom or call the "doc. on call" at your med. practice.

Thanks for the replies Marcie & Bobbie...

I really hope this is going to be okay. I guess my biggest worry is all the complications I read about from C Diff, like toxic megacolon. I am not constipated or anything, though. I just get so scared that my intestines are all infected, or something is going to get gangrenous and I'll die. I know it sounds paranoid and everything, but I can't seem to help it. The pain is more in my right side, I guess, although if I press the midline, it hurts as well. Yesterday I was doing pretty much okay, just the usual vague pain if really felt for it. But today it's really sore, if I pull my knee up to my chest I really feel it. I hope this is just some discomfort due to the c.diff, and not something worse. I'm driving myself crazy with worry. Okay, well, thanks for listening and for the replies, I appreciated them.

I too experience the same pain when the C-diff is in full force. That is why I am insistant that I never had IBS. infection and inflamation can be the cause. I hope it resolves itself because I know it is very painful

Today i went to get my daughter from my mother in law. 2 1/2 hours away. There are a lot of curves on the way, a good 40min of them. When i got there (a little before) i was cramping sooooooo bad. It almost felt like contractions for birth. My back felt like it was breaking in pieces or it was being twisted. It lasted about 1 hour, i could not wait to come back. I still had to stop and say hi to my mom but by that time i was feeling a little better. I did not think i would make it out alive. I do not know what happend to me. Maybe sitting for a long time, i did not eat anything.
On the way back i was telling a friend over the phone that i had experienced extreme cramping like i have not had since i was 12-14. I used to miss school because my menstrual cramps were bad. It all changed after having daughter. So she told me it might be the full moon. Well i will take that anything but to believe c diff had anything to do with it.

I too had the stomach pain at the beginning of my battle with c-diff.I could not touch my stomach or even lay on it.It hurt so bad. It was not until I was on my 4 month round of Vanco that it finally dissapeared.Even then it wasn't until about a month and a half into it that it stopped.I now no longer have the pain and am able to sleep on my stomach once again.

Hi Christina
Well this cramps had nothing to do with stomach. They were on my lower back, like period cramps but 5 times worse. Then i read about cramps are because of blood clots. So i'm thinking since i was sitting for more than 2 hours, perhaps it might of had to do something with it. the hairs on my arms were sticking straight up. It all went away like nothing had happend. It felt like when you are dialating 4-6 when in labor.

Marcia,
I'd go see a doc. because you've had a variety of strange symptoms lately. You've also been under a lot of stress with the new job, etc., but wouldn't it alleviate your worries if you got a professional opinion? We've all had our problems with docs., but sometimes they are right. You might see an internist first as they are diagnosticians and can direct you to other specialists if he/she thinks it is necessary. It helps to have one "in your corner" as they see you more as a whole person instead of "just a part."

Abdominal pain

Postby James » Sun Apr 02, 2006 11:08 pm

My abdomen was tender (painful to touch) for the first 4 - 5 days on Flagyl, then that dininished, but pain in my upper-right abdomen persisted. The Dr. said it could be a problem with the gall bladder and I'm going to call to follow-up tomorrow (to be continued in my case history).

My doctor said the pain in the abdomen should diminish with the other symptoms and if it did not it should be checked again.
