Used the gel last night and don't know if it coincidence or not, but today IBS was pretty bad. Yesterday I felt pretty good. Will wait a day and try again. Do cortisone shots cause D or IBS at all?

I have had cortisone shots several times since having cdiff, and they didn't cause me any GI issues. But they didn't help my various joint pains very much either.

Thanks, Nancy. I may go and get one if this doesn't get better. The cream did not help me, but I only used it for a day, but didn't notice any difference. Am not using it today to see if the GI issues are better tomorrow. I rubbed in some cortisone ointment - probably won't do anything either, but I know I don't react from it, so might as well try. This aging stuff really isn't fun.

I just had cortisone in both knees and it didn't affect me at all. I would go for it and hopefully you will get a lot of relief. I know the shots help my knees so much but it doesn't last. I have to lose weight now, around 20 lbs. All those carbs I ate post CDiff have caught up with me. Hope your thumb feels better. Carol

Beth, I'm sorry about your hand. I wanted to let you know I have used votaren gel on my knees w/ no adverse effects, I have had cortisone inj's bil knees this last year and the synvisc inj's w/ no problems GI wise, however, didn't help my knees either. I hope you get some relief soon.. you are in my thoughts and prayers...

Thanks. I will dry the gel again, but it did not seem to do anything. I guess the next step will be to get the cortisone injection.

Just an update. The hand is still bad and so are the GI issues. I see a specialist for pancreatic/biliary problems on Thursday - he did my endoscopic ultrasound in Dec. 2010. I see the hand surgeon next Monday and a SIBO specialist too.

My daughter's test results came back - she has no pathogens, no c diff, no yeast overgrowth and a lot of good bacteria. The GI said she would make a good donor. Well, just as the title to this post suggests - bad luck again. She is down with some type of upper respiratory illness - cold or whatever. At best, I have to wait until she is better for the stool transfer, which my GI thinks I should do. At worst, as she used to be prone to sinus infections and last year seems to have developed asthma, I am keeping my fingers crossed that she does not need to go on antibiotics - for her sake as well as for mine as she won't be able to be a donor for abut 6 months. But, I still worry that she has the spores in her as she visited the rehab hospital where my mom was and also was around me.

We'll see what happens in the next few day. Will post what the GI specialist on Thursday says and also the SIBO doctor. I want to know if there is any other way to treat SIBO besides taking antibiotics or drinking that gruel for 2 - 3 weeks that he mentioned before.

Thanks for the update Liz. I hope and pray your daughter gets over this without atx, for both your sakes. Are you going to try the cortisone in the hand? I had them 2 weeks ago in my knees and no issues. Keeping you in my prayers, you have had enough bad luck, time for some good news and getting rid of all this with the FT would be a Godsend. Thanks, Carol. I see the hand specialist on Monday and I think he will probably try the cortisone. The orthopedist recommended that, but I would rather have the hand specialist do it, as all he deals with are hands and probably is more skilled.

I am going to lock this thread now and start a new one when I update, as it is getting too long.
