Rough last few days. I am trying to taper off vanco, taking 3 125mg/day. last Sunday I felt good....today, not so much. My GI has given up. He said I must have a virus, anxiety, or thyroid issues. It really irritates me that he will not admit that c.diff is different for everyone. He says vanco cures it 100% of the time, so the fact that I don't seem to be able to go w/o taking it is just not fathomable. Well, I have an appt on Tuesday with my family doc, so maybe he can suggest someone else. This same GI thinks I might want to see an ID doctor, but he doesn't appear to really want to help find one!!
Sometimes it is hard not to get discouraged.

You have all my sympathy in dealing with your GI doc. Mine gave up on me too, after 3 relapses. (Worse yet, he didn't even tell me he was giving up on me, he just stopped returning my phone calls. And his PA kept telling me that he was calling a specialist and just hadn't heard from him yet.) Why is it that if docs can't cure us easily, they throw up their hands?? Or make us feel like it's our fault and not cdiff? Anxiety, my eye! I found an ID doc through my primary care doc, and she was willing to listen. I hope you can find a better doc too. Good luck.

Since having cdiff I have gone through doctors like crazy! My initial GI did a colonoscopy after one round of vanco and said I was CLEAR and needed to be removed from vanco immediately--------I WAS-----Almost died! He still could not believe that cdiff was hanging on and was all huffy that he was wrong. THANK GOD I had a surgeon who had witnessed cdiff in his residency and knew I still had it or I would not be here today. That doctor saved my life numerous times while going against GI's and infectious disease doctors and immediately starting treatment. He proved them wrong so many times it was not funny when we did get a positive test result after they insisted I WAS WELL. I felt my whole world would collapse when the surgeon had problems of his own and left his practice. However I finally found an internist who listened and takes me seriously. I also have acquired ONE GI who realizes the intensity of my problem (having cdiff for 7 years) and almost refuses to treat me based on the fact everything has been done that they feel can be. I trudge on today and if I had to I would find another doctor tomorrow if need be. This disease is too draining to also have to fight with your doctors.
Cindy
