Hi, it's me again. This website is so amazing for any information and just support because without it I would be so lost
In my previous posts, I had a mild case and decided not to take antibiotics (flagyl) because I heard it does more harm than good for a mild case
I was fine for around two weeks, eating light foods but introducing low fodmap foods back in my diet. Two days ago I tried a new type of prepared chicken and it didn't sit right with me. I sparked a fever that night and it went to 99.1 but went away on it's own with no medicine after one/two hours. My temperature was fluctuating as well, I made sure not to eat or drink and it would be 99.1 then 98.8 after 15 minutes then back to 99.1. Yesterday I sparked another fever but same deal, went away on it's own. My whole life I have gotten fevers very easily. However I usually feel feverish so I know when I am about to get one.
As for the D, I only used the bathroom twice yesterday after a two days of not having any BM. According to the bristol scale, it was type 4/5 then the second time it was type 6. The rest of the day I had a lot of gas pain and mild cramping, no rumbling really. The feeling that my stomach is "full." The cramps move around and sometimes my belly literally feels itchy wherever the cramps are. They usually start in the belly button region. Today I kind of the exact same two BM's in between type 4/5 and 6.
My frustrations are because I was doing so well for a two weeks and my symptoms slightly came back. Someone mentioned that because I am not taking medicine, flare ups are normal and it's just important to keep them under control. It's usually the fevers I am worried about....but maybe thats normal too? I am not sure
Is it possible to spark a fever with IBS symptoms? Or is it just a c diff flare up since I am not taking any antibiotics and it is normal because I ate something funky. I just want to know how long the recovery was for some of you who went the "let my body handle it" route! I heard it's a couple months of trial and error

99.1 is NOT a fever! it's well within the normal range of human body temperature.
Temperature varies throughout the day for everyone in the world!
Stop taking your temperature and worrying about very small variations.
Eating, walking, resting, sleeping in fact EVERYTHING you do causes a change in temperature.
If you had active c.diff you would know it!
"Itchy belly button"?
scratch it!

Re: Frustrated and need reassurance.
Thank you for the advice! I talked to two more doctors today and they both said I should take flagyl because it wont go away on it's own
The worst part is making the decision because i have heard so many horror stories on how flagyl makes it worse! The urgent care doctor upon hearing my symptoms said "99.1 is not a fever" but then as soon as he found out I had c diff he said "oh you keep having fevers so you should take flagyl"
So I am just confused. He felt bad and called us back and sent a prescription for dificid because I mentioned it in the office and he didn't know what it was and had to google it. I am not sure if I should take dificid either because it is a strong and expensive medication and its all just very confusing. The other doctor suggested I should skip straight to oral vancomycin but we will see....

Flagyl doesn't "make things worse." It's just less effective compared with Dificid and vanco. That said, it doesn't sound to me as though you should be taking any of these three drugs, because your symptoms aren't those of C. difficile. I'm surprised your doctors would recommend an antibiotic for you. I think you need to find new doctors! A different type of chicken would not trigger C. diff! Nor would any specific food!
If your illness was preceded by use of a medication, e.g., an antibiotic, please fill out an FDA Adverse Event Report at http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/default.htm

Re: Frustrated and need reassurance.
I have talked to 4 + doctors and they all said to take the flagyl unfortunately :\ But two homeopathic doctors and specialists told me to hold off. That chicken was a prepared kebob with whole pieces of onions and cilantro. I usually eat those foods but cooked for hours in soups and broth and they are blended. That same day I also tried lentels and whole grain bread. This all irritated my system I guess? I have a fever of 99.3 right now and stomach cramps and earlier in the day when I was at the doctors it was 98.2. So its a fluctuation for sure and probably nothing to worry about but its so hard when doctors tell you one thing and everyone with real experiences tell you another!

Re: Frustrated and need reassurance.
My mom used to suffer with IBS and she would get those kinds of temps. Her GI said that any GI irritation can cause elevated temps. They are not considered fevers. This was way before she ever had c difficile. Flagyl can cause c difficile even though it us used to treat it. That is probably one of the reasons it is not recommended as a first line treatment. Dificid is the best treatment and the one that kills the least good flora. My insurance covers it. You would have to check with yours. If you do decide to take something, I would take Dificid. I have a bottle in my cupboard in case I need it. I got it when I traveled, but did not need it. I have been testing positive for over a year, but do not have an active infection. It doesn't sound as if you do either, but I am not a doctor. Only you know how you feel. I would not eat onions. They upset my GI tract still.

Thank you so much for sharing that, it reassures what I have been thinking all along! my whole life I have usually tested on the warmer side and if I have any health issues, my fever is the first to spark! Any time my stomach starts cramping, my fever would spark.
I have a question, how strong was dificid for you? any serious side effects?
