SORES ANYONE??

Postby Woman51960 » Tue Mar 21, 2006 11:02 am

I have been battling this beast on and off now for over six months. I keep getting terrible sores-sometimes they look like cuts in my groin area. I use to get lots of cysts so I thought it was that. I think I read on here somewhere that someone else also acquired some sores. Has anyone else gotten these type of sores with CDiff? Could it possibly be related to the CDiff?

My ID doctor is useless. I think I know more about this disease than she does. I think we are our own best doctors. I showed these sores to her and she has no idea-what they are. We have to do our own research and diagnosis-and just go to the doctors to pay them to get the necessary prescriptions.

Woman51950,
I don't rememer anyone else mentioning simlar sores. Could it be a yeast infection that manifests itself differently? (Some people have reported yeast infections while on Vanco.) You might call your pharmacist and ask him/her to recommend an OTI salve (not containing antiibiotics).

I'd consult a dermatologist first, however. Ask your ID to recommend one.

You're right -- we often are our best docs. Too bad we can't pay ourselves.

This is a very costly disease with the meds, doctors visits, etc....It seems now I want to blame it all on CD...Maybe I read something about staph infections being related.

Vanco. was developed to treat staph -- but the IV form is effective against it. I don't think the oral form is, but ask your pharmacist.

Yes, it's tempting to blame everything on C. diff. I'm sure it's not responsible for all our other "ails," but it does seem involved in some of them -- or at least the catalyst. I know many of my currrent health problems were caused by C. diff.; some probably not.

Kansas

Postby Woman51960 » Tue Mar 21, 2006 5:31 pm

I visited my son at Thanksgiving whom lives in Kansas. I see you are from there as well. When I went to see him I had just started taking a 7 day course of Augmentin and a one time pill of Clindamycin. From there it was all down hill and I was diagnosed with the C Diff sometime in December. We didn't really go to too many places except for the Casino. Do you think it possible that I could have contracted it in Kansas? Just a thought that occured to me. I guess I will always wonder how, where, when, and if I will ever be normal again. Where do you think you contracted it from?

My PCP thinks I may have contracted it while in the hospital for a hysterectomy. Also, being on the antibiotics for lots of infections hasn't help either.

Woman51960,
Have you read Dr. Borody's article, the beginning posts on how to navigate this site, and FAQ? If so, you would know you probably got C. diff. from antibiotics (Clindamycin is a BIG offender and Augmentin is another). Hospitalization is another factor.

I developed C. diff. from a "new" antibiotic called Vantin. It is now rarely used because it caused so many cases of C. diff.

If you've looked at the membership list, you'll see posters from every US state and from many other countries. Why would you think " I could have contracted it in Kansas?"

I read your post and wondered if you were thinking of me. I had staph that caused sores on my chin. The staph then got into my blood-- I have a rare disease and weak immune system. I ended up in the hospital and on IV Vanco, levaquin, and clindamycin-------then about 2 weeks later voila----c diff.
The staph sores healed up after the IV meds, but came back. I had a neg c diff test and have had no diarrhea, but still had more sores show up. The ID I saw was worthless. So was the dermatologist! I was recently put on Bactrim and Tetracycline to try to stop the bacteria. It is getting better. I think our bodies get torn down by C diff or they are fighting so hard to beat c diff that they can't protect us from other things.

Sores to the top of my forehands

Postby jay629 » Thu Aug 31, 2006 7:39 pm

I have been battelling this C- Diff for a couple of months. It is a terrible thing to have. I noticed I am getting sores on the top of my forehands.
I was wondering if anyone has experienced the same problem as me.
Thanks.

Jay,
I haven't heard of anyone having sores on hands, but maybe someone else will reading this will have some input.
I have had a rash on my forehead since I got c-diff. I don't know if it is coincidence or not. With all of my other health issues, going to the dermatologist hasn't been a priority, but I do have an appointment scheduled.

The only sores I have developed are on my scalp from time to time during my 5 year battle. They come and hang around for 3-6 weeks and then leave and stay gone for about a month or so and then come back. Tried everything from changing shampoos to not using hair spray........nothing stops it. My doctors just shrug it off.......never happened prior to cdiff. I also tend to get dry patches on my skin now which I never did before too.

Been a long time since anyone posted in this thread, but I'm going through this now, erm, below the belt. Kind of assumed it was from all the wiping. It's been 4 months since my c diff started... Going to see ID on Tuesday finally. Anyone else had this problem/a solution for it? It's really inconvenient and pretty painful...

In the early days of c diff, I got a rash and sores as well. The doctor gave me an ointment to use - I think it was Mycolog. He also said not to use colored toilet paper and go easy on using wipes. He also told me to get this lotion type stuff called Balneol to put on the toilet paper and wipe with and it helped.
