Sounds like the cipro allowed it to come back.
Not many Dr's would have prescribed cipro so close to c.diff unless it was to save a life.
Go get tested but if the tests going to take a while for results ask to be treated on symptoms.
Do not even consider alternative treatments without using mainstream meds.
There's no known vegative c.diff that's resistant to vanco (or flagyl).
No med kills the spores and that's what causes a relapse.
You need your gut flora to recover to the extent that once the meds are finished it can grow faster than the c.diff and defeat it like nature intended.
Cipro has decimated your recovering gut flora but does not kill c.diff.
Vanco will kill c.diff but also kill some good flora but a taper pulse might allow the good guys to grow faster than the c.diff.
Dificid limits it's killing to c.diff and spares the good gut flora.
Relapsing Posters that persuaded their Dr to taper Dificid have claimed a very high success rate.

Re: Frightened- venting needed.
I agree with Roy, I think you need to call your doctor today, and I would ask for Dificid. The rest of his post is right on the money as well (of course). I wouldn't wait until tomorrow to speak with a doctor. Do you have a GI doctor or an infectious diseases doctor? If not you might want to go to an actual hospital ER instead of continuing to rely upon urgent care centers. You certainly don't want to get dehydrated right on the end of a kidney infection, and the sooner you start treating your possible C diff relapse the better.
Vanderbilt Med School is in Nashville and should have outstanding specialists on staff. You really need to get a good team on board. The other advantage to going to a hospital is that they will get your tests run quickly. You said in a previous post that you waited 8 days for results from an urgent care before, and that really isn't a good idea.

I was given cipro about 7 months post fmt and I relapsed within days. Things went from bad to worse very quickly and I wound up in ER. I would not wait until tomorrow either.

Seems that you have relapsed , agree about trying Dificid this time. Please read about Dificid and why it is superior to Vanco , cured many here when Vanco failed , although it was a harsh treatment.

Agree with the others. Feel better. I am sure it is possible to become vanco. resistant but it would probably take a lot of vanco.,I took it for four years and then again several times and it allowed me to work and live an almost normal, life.
You are a sweet, considerate man to be so concerned about your wife when you are so sick. Long distance car trip? Try to talk her out of it - at least until you get better.

Re: Frightened- venting needed.
After trying flagyl and vanco unsuccessfully, dificid worked and I had no side effects while taking the medication.....
I was having bladder issues and d-mannose (purchased mine from The Vitamin Shoppe) helped....
I was also given Macrobid for my bladder issues, apparently it is a low offender for c diff, but I never needed to take the drug...

Re: Frightened- venting needed.
Update: I only went twice yesterday (loosely formed, and loose). This morning was a little more brown and softly formed. I'm going to give a day or two before I go to the doctors. My pain in guts has subsided substantially. It may have been the effects of cipro.
My first GI guy was really bad. He made me wait about 3 weeks to give me my flagyl script for cdiff. Those were some really dark days. I harbor a little bit of hate towards that person for that. Not sure what type of person does something like that, but I think a throat punch is in order.
I do have a 2 week supply of vanco with me 125mg. But I'm trying to not take any antibiotic. I'm about day 48 off of vanco, so ima ride this out a little bit. I drink nearly a gallon of water/ cranberry juice, and lime water (fresh lime) a day and walk 2 miles.
We will be hitting the road tomorrow and driving to Pittsburgh PA. I have been extremely careful about handwashing, and I wash their toilet 1x/day. I couldn't talk my wife out of this trip, so am doing the best I can under the circumstances. The family was a tad perturbed I didn't want to go to Nashville for adventure dining, so I gave them a talk and I think they understood. We had adventure dining here in Murfreesboro (Bonefish) (I had some spicy fish)and conversation was pleasant. All in all, its going ok. I have a few ducks lined up if things get out of control. I want to thank everyone for letting me vent. It allows me to keep my sanity.
Question: I have a 2 week supply of 250mg vanco also, but my gi guy wasn't specific on how much to take. I have enough for 2x/day, but I haven't seen any posts on 250mg 2x / day. Anyone ever do that? I prob have 1 weeks worth then. However, I don't want to take a 250, because I get gut-burn with every antibiotic I take, and the 125 was very tolerable compared to others. Do any of you get gut-burn?
Jonathan

Re: Frightened- venting needed.
Vanco, after a few days, always irritated my Gi tract. I would not take anything unless you have to, but if you do, then take what you did well with before. I would pack some Pepto Bismol with you and take that if you are going on a long car trip and start to have frequency.

Hopefully your body will take care of it without the need for vanco. Let us know how it goes and have a good trip!

Re: Frightened- venting needed.
Glad to hear that you are improving, Jonathan! That is good news. Hopefully, your gut is improving and there is no need for another round of meds. I think you are taking the right approach in all of this by not jumping into treatment again without knowing for sure if the c-diff is back. And good for you for not letting c-diff anxieties stop you from your trip. I laughed at your line " I think a throat punch is in order" for that doctor. I think we have all felt that way about doctors at times!
Wishing you continued improvement and no more meds! Safe travels!
