i just need to throw a fit......

You can do it here... but no profanity, naming specific names, etc. Try to be constructive. Suggestions to improve the board or discussion forums are always appreciated.

I am right there with you! I had my gallbladder removed 9 months ago and have had problems since. Can't work, frequent hospital visits, no social life, etc.

One of the most infuriating parts is the er system. I got out of isolation last Saturday and by Sunday I was in an ambulance back to the hospital. After the doc said nothing they could do and said I must be overreacting, i almost broke down in tears. It was only when the nurse said it could be cured by eatinggluten free and perhaps having a mental health exam, did i break down completely! I have now been up all night with worst pain in my life and am going to attempt the er again. Any advice as to how to be taken seriously would be great! I can't get into my GI doc for three more weeks and after nine months losing 60 pounds, I inflated like a blimp last night and feel like my tummy might burst!

Happy I have found a safe place to complain about my poopy situation!

Yep, diagnosed and put in isolation at hospital for one week and one week at home on oral antibiotics. I hate it!

What treatment are you on?
What symptoms did you have and what symptoms do you have now?
If you can give us some more info we can tell you what you should be doing.

I was put on Flagyl. Two days before finishing meds, I became EXTREMELY bloated, massive gas which is very unpredictable and the diarrhea is from another world. Worse than I ever had in the hospital. The pain is unbearable at times. Constant cramping with sharp pains in my belly. And again, swollen to the point of looking like I am pregnant. Not sure if I should eat, as it comes out violently twenty minutes after the first bite.

Suggestions?

Sounds like your right and need to go to ER
My advice would be to go without delay
Print this off and take it with you.
It tells them (and you) exactly what they should be doing

Try getting some vancomycin sounds like the flagyl might not be working.

STANDARD INTRODUCTION:
Welcome to the site. Read the first forum “All Users Read This First” and subtopics “Site History” and “Information and Guidelines for Posting to our Discussion Boards.” (Note limits on posting.) This will guide you in using the site and answer some of your questions. Read Dr. Borody's articles. Also see the topics under “CDI” – particularly Recent CDC Report, The C. diff. Bible, Tests, Antibiotics, Hygiene, and Nutrition.

“Doctors” lists physicians our posters recommended and also a list of C. diff. specialists throughout the world with contact information. (Many perform FMT's.) See the new forum “FMT’s and FE’s” or “Media Reports” for new information on C. diff.

The majority of patients (about 70%) recover with one to two rounds of Flagyl or Vancocin. An unfortunate small percentage doesn’t and can suffer for months. Most recover unless there are factors such as advanced age or other severe health problems. New treatments include FMT's, which have a high cure rate, and Dificid. Other drugs and treatments are in the pipeline, and there is increased recognition of C. diff. You can help by educating your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers. Help us make others aware of C. difficle – which will lead to further advances in treating and/or preventing the infection. If antibiotics contributed to your C. diff, be careful about taking them again. Some people tolerate them; some develop C. diff again. Don’t take medications for C. diff. unless you are tested.

If a medication contributed to your case, please fill out an Adverse Event Report online at: http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/default.htm. Under "Resources for You," in left-hand column, click on "Report a Serious Medical Product Problem Online." (Allison provided this information.)

The best protection for you and others is thorough hand washing and good hygiene. (See Dr. Borody’s articles and “CDI.”) For more information, see other support groups on Facebook, including http://www.peggyfoundation.org, the Mayo Clinic and Web MD web sites, and “The FMT Foundation” under “Links” on the homepage.

This is a support site not a medical site. We can’t give you medical advice but can tell you what worked for us and offer support. No one will understand what you are going through except someone who has/had this unpredictable disease. All of our moderators and frequent posters had/have C. diff. (or a loved one with it) and know how physically, emotionally, and financially disabling it can be.

Again, welcome. Remember, the odds are in your favor. (End of letter.)

When you go to the ER, can you request a consult with an infectious disease doctor or a GI? They should be familiar with c-diff and how to treat it. If I am reading your posts correctly, you have just recently completely a course of Flagyl after a positive c-diff test and that is the only treatment you have received so far. Is that correct? C-diff is becoming more and more resistant to Flagyl and a different medication such as oral Vancomycin or Dificid may be required to get the c-diff cleared up. A good doctor would retreat based on your symptoms and not wait for test results. Hopefully, when you go back to the ER, they can get an infectious disease doctor or GI called in. Eating gluten free and having a mental exam won't cure c-diff! I hope you can get some help today.

If you have to ask for a patient advocate at the hospital. They should not be taking this so lightly. If you still get no where go to another er if possible. Vanco may be needed to get your symptoms under control and you should be monitored and on meds while in this state.

Julie, so sorry. My heart goes out to you. I'd ask for an Infectious doctor at the ER! I know C Diff may have nothing to do with the gall bladder BUT every person I know that had theirs removed say it's the worst decision they made! Please keep us posted. Praying for you to get taken care of correctly and quickly!

TeresaJo,
Have wanted to compliment you on your daughter Mylissa, but we have had so many new posters. She sounds like a lovely, accomplished young woman - probably thanks in part to you. I was a paralegal for years.

If you use the perseverance to get over C. diff. you used to raise her, you will undoubtedly succeed. Your husband sounds like a winner. Tell him so.

Celebrate yourself!

Thank you so much Bobbie. My girls are my greatest accomplishment. Mylissa was a challenge for sure but I look back now and I wouldn't not take for one second of it. She is so optimistic and such a happy person....a good mom...and the best dispatcher I have seen in many years. She is a daddy's girl and is his pride and joy. My youngest daughter, Kristina is a real gem as well. She is an account executive with suddenlink communications. Our joke with her stems from the fact she sells commercial advertising.....so we paid 45000 dollars for her college education for her to sell air. They are both beautiful heart and mind.
