Probiotics and bifidus

Postby ncmimi4 » Sun Mar 02, 2014 2:12 pm

Question, when I was trying the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD ) while fighting "The Beast" the instructions for making your own yogurt said not to use any probiotic that had bifidus in the name. It stated that it is for helping irregularity and will make D worse. I notice that many of the probiotics listed on various yogurts have bifidus. Should anyone recovering from cd avoid them or is that untrue?

I am not an expert on probiotics. They appear to be a "can help; probably won't hurt" topic. Some patients and doctors swear by them; some think they are a waste of money.

See CDI. One of our former posters (Kelly Karpa) wrote a book about them - Bacteria for Breakfast. Believe her web site is working. She is a pharmacologist and a pharmacist. We used to correspond but haven't done so recently. You might email her -- or contact a local health food store with someone in supplements that seems to know what he/she is talking about. Or check with one of the good health web sites - WebMD or Mayo.
