It never ends

Postby beth22 » Tue Apr 02, 2013 2:08 am

I won't be posting for a few days. Had to have an unexpected breast biopsy today after a yearly mammogram. Upset about that, but mostly upset because my ionized calcium level was high again despite having parathyroid surgery. I don't know why, and I don't think the doctors really do either. Since high calcium levels can be caused by cancer, I am even more worried considering the biopsy today, although the radiologist did not think the calcifications that he biopsied were more than "pre-cancer." Hopefully, they were benign. Anyway, I need a break from everything right now before I have a nervous breakdown. My mom has another UTI and is on antibiotics again, for the 3rd time in less than two months. She had c diff before too.

Will be back when I am able and in a better frame of mind.

My prayers are with you also Liz, I'm sure the biopsies will be negative. Take this time for yourself and try to relax. Maybe it just takes time for the levels to come down after surgery, its only been a few weeks. Hang in there and hope you feel better soon and get good news. Carol

Will be thinking of you and hoping all is OK. Breast calcifications are very common, and also very often benign. Even if they were to be classified as "pre-cancer" this doesn't mean they will develop into actual cancer in your lifetime.
All best,

Beth, I will be praying for you. I have had many breast biopsy surgeries and understand your anxiety. Calcifications are common as another poster said. Please know that we all care and thank you so much for helping this site be a lifeline to so many. Sylvia

We all wish you the best and hope they are benign. Our many thoughts and prayers are with you.

You don't need another "something" to do - such as this site. It will probably still be here long after most of us are gone.

Take care of you.

Thanks all of you. Roy, it was a yearly mammogram that I have because I am 58 and have cysts and calcifications in my breasts. It's a once a year thing that insurance covers 100% because it is like part of a physical. It's always been ok, but this time they saw something different. The radiologist said that it might be "pre-cancer" or benign. So, better to see and not wait for it to turn into something worse. The only part that scares me is that a colleague of mine was told that her calcifications were "nothing to worry about", but they turned out to be an aggressive form of cancer and she had to have a mastectomy.

As far as the calcium levels, they need to see what is happening after the surgery that was supposed to correct this. Otherwise - yes you are right. I should never have treated the c difficile. I did not know about this site then and the first doctor scared me by saying I could lose my colon. I knew nothing about it and thought that one course of vanco would cure me. The rest is history. Hindsight is always 20/20 and had I known then what I know now, I would have bought some probiotics and not treated. Can't change that anymore. If I ever feel better, I will just do a home enema and see if it helps. It seemed to last time. All the calcium they had me taking after the surgery actually helped my intestines - a bit constipating I guess.

Yes, hopefully this turns out to be nothing serious. I am more than sick of having to deal with my own problems and my mother's. I need some good news!

I had an appt with my internist today and he checked the hospital computer - the pathology report was in. It was not malignant, but the calcifications showed "focal atypical ductal hyperplasia". The breast tissue was benign. Not sure what it means, perhaps that is the pre-cancer. I see the breast specialist/surgeon on Monday and will find out if anything has to be taken out or if it just has to be followed routinely. For all I know, they may already have taken out what was questionable in the biopsy. The biopsies were bigger than I thought. Now I just have to be really careful about the wound care because I sure don't want to wind up on antibiotics for an infection!

Thanks for all of your good wishes and prayers. I will be back to posting soon. Just need some time to unwind from all the stress over the last few weeks. I don't want to wind up in a mental institution.

Great news Liz, now you can relax. I know how you feel, I had a bad report from my yearly pap and had to go through 2 vaginal ultrasounds etc. until they told me everything was ok, it was a very stressful time. I was fighting CDiff and not feeling well and that on top of everything was just too much. Anyway, thank God its all good. Now you take some time and feel better. Carol

Saw the breast specialist today. Since I just had parathyroid surgery last month, they are not going to do anything right now about the abnormal biopsy. It is not malignant. Sometimes they take out the tissue anyway, but mine was confined to a very small area apparently, so I am to go back in August and have another mammogram and then the doctor will give his recommendation. If there is no change, then I guess I won't have to do the surgery. From what I understand there is a small chance it could be or could turn malignant, although they did take 3 biopsies and none showed any cancer. So, for now I will just try and concentrate on my work and living each day as fully as I can. Still having GI issues, but post surgery, they have been a little better. A little better is good - am trying to start eating more foods.

First day back to work today and feel as if I am catching a cold. Not what I need, but am going to bed now and hoping that I will feel better in the morning. We had terrible winds today, so maybe that is what gave me the sore throat. With all the stress I had lately, a cold would not surprise me either as I generally get them when I am either stressed or have not slept much.

Thanks for all your prayers and support.
