You guys are going to love this crazy story!

Postby scaredtobehere » Tue Dec 11, 2012 8:28 pm

Recap...I was seeing my family practitioner for the C Diff. He was doing a good job but I wanted a specialist due to the relapses. So, he referred me to a GI. I get to the appointment, and I see the nurse, not the doctor. The nurse says she is referring me to an ID doctor but feels my pain might be cancer related (since she's never heard of this pain in c diff patients) and wants a CT Scan to "ease" our minds. Not eased. Fear increased but I refuse the CT scan. So, I spend the next 2 weeks off meds working with this nurse and her nurse who keep telling me that she is working on getting me transferred to an ID doctor. And, they tell me they can do no tests, no exams, and give no relief until I test negative for C Diff. Meanwhile, I feel crummy, can't eat, and the pain is getting worse.

Newest news...Yesterday, I couldn't stand the inactivity so I call my family practitioner again to get a referral to a proctologist. He calls me back to ask why. I give him the background story with the GI. He about blows a gasket and starts making phone calls (what a nice guy!). And, he tells me emphatically that I do NOT have cancer, I do NOT need a CT scan, that it is only proctitis. His nurse calls me this morning saying that the ID doctor claims to have made an appointment for me. Well, wouldn't it be nice for the patient to know the date? She says this whole situation is getting crazy. You think!!?? So, this afternoon, my husband takes time off work and starts to make phone calls because he is now seething. He calls the GI office who says that they faxed my files to the ID doctor 2 weeks ago. Then, he calls the ID doctor and they say they've never heard of me, never made any appointments for me, and never received my files and that it will now take weeks to see them once they do get the info. My husband calls the GI office again. They tell him he must have called the wrong ID office and gave him a new number. Guess what? It was a number for a cardiologist office. He calls the GI office, again, and gives them a piece of his mind. They say "oops", we messed up. And, the nurse totally dropped the ball. She never checked to see if my records transferred. She never called to make sure they were getting me an appointment. Each time I called, she would say to check in with her in a few days. 2 weeks of this misery all because someone didn't want to give me the time of day! I am so thankful that my family doctor has been taking the time to personally call this GI office and tell them how terrible they are and working on getting things moving again. Wow! I've never had to deal with this insanity for medical care before. Mind boggling!

Oh, and right now I'm having to make the tough decision of waiting to see if my crummy symptoms are only post c diff and wait for the test OR decide to go back on that lovely, wonderful Vanco that made the world seem right and in its place for once. We'll see.

Nurse was inappropriate and owes you an apology!!!! I would wait, watch and see before I would go back on Vanco. Your symptoms may be part of the recovery process; even then C-diff is no picnic. It truly takes time for a complete recovery!!!

I can't tell you the many times docs. haven't returned my calls, the info. on my chart was incorrect, I didn't get test results until I called upteen times, etc. Not much surprises me anymore, and I was raised in a an era where docs. were next to God and didn't make mistakes.

I'm glad your story had a happy ending. Kudoes to your husband for pitching in and helping you. For some reason, docs. and nurses listen to a man more than a woman.

The nurse is clueless and should seek another profession.

I'm glad your doctor stepped in. Why can't he order a c diff test for you? My internist did a bunch of times. I wouldn't start vanco unless you get very much worse. Try to see if you can do a test for c diff. No point in taking vanco if you are testing negative (unless, of course, you get bad D).

WOW! I can't believe how stupid that nurse is. Seriously!?!? She not only made herself look like a complete idiot, but the whole entire office now looks stupid. CRAZY! I know we are all human and make mistakes, but she made one too many and sounded like she did not even care. Yikes!
