THE PHYSICIAN’S NEW CLOTHES

I huddle in a paper gown
As a clock clicks time away.
I really want to dress and run
But force myself to stay.

I’ll surely catch pneumonia
As I sit here in this chill,
And then I’ll promptly get
A larger doctor bill.

At last, HE enters regally
To judge my little woes,
And hovers above my humble self
In his costly real cloth clothes.

From the magnificent height
Of his prestigious position,
He embodies the essence of
Sacred medical tradition.

He glances quickly at my chart
And with his deductive skills,
He shakes his head and scoffs
At my small insignificant ills.

One thought warms my goosebumps
That stretch from top to toes:
I’m sure I bought a large part of
His house, his car, his clothes!
