My male nurse......

Postby Knitter » Sat Nov 12, 2005 4:41 pm

A little embarrassed, I handed the sample in it's proper sample bottle, carefully disguised wrapped in paper towelling and sealed into a zip lock baggie. The nurse looked at me and said "No thanks". After a five hour wait in the ER waiting area with this baggie, I was in no mood for a refusal. This sample NEEDED to be tested as I was SURE I had C. Diff. yet again. And here was this young good looking male nurse refusing to take the sample. A bit confused, I asked him why he refused to take the sample, and this was his reply. "I don't take shit from nobody." Well, as it was meant to, it struck me as being funny. I giggled, then laughed outright, then spent the rest of the hospital visit with this silly grin on my face. It turns out that yes, I do have C. Diff. yet again. Each time I give a sample for testing now I will think of that nurse and smile.

...and by the way, he finally did take my ummmm s _ _ t, after much laughter from the both of us.

Sorry you are having such a hard time getting rid of this nagging illness. Hopefully this time is gone for good. Looks like you are looking at the positive things like laughing at the nurse's reply. I do not know what my reaction would of been. Laughter heals, when i was sick with c diff i found myself just watching funny shows so i could forget about my unhappy times. America's funniest home videos was one of them. Outragious tv another. Hope you get well soon, thanks for sharing this moment with us.

You're welcome Marcia. I have been trying to laugh. Sometimes even that hurts. Oh well, I will be perfectly fine in about six months!!! Thanks for replying, and I am glad you got a chuckle out of my story. I know I sure did myself at the time. And YES laughter is the BEST medicine.

Knitter,
Funny story! Too bad he had to be male and good looking! He had a great sense of humor, and evidently you do, too, as some patients ( the grumpy ones) would be offended. Keep your sense of humor! We need it on the site.

OK Bobbie, I will try my best. If I didn't laugh in the last while, I would cry, from frustration and pain (if you read my case history you will understand that comment), so I choose to laugh. I laughed (although weakly) for a week while doing the potty dance, one day 18 times at home and then another 3 at the hospital. It was either that or curse the GP I am forced into dealing with. Anyways, thanks for responding and the words of encouragement. Did I tell you the nurse had a cute ummmm bottom? He knew how embarrassed I was, and how sick........ By the time I left that hospital I actually had a smile on my face (again read Knitter's case history to understand). Sorry to have to "meet" you under these circumstances, but nice to know there is support when needed.

I know what you mean about laughing or crying. Sometimes they are very close.

My son had C. diff. in l979 when no one had ever heard of it. He was 4 years old and one of the first people to receive oral Vancocin. Up to that time, it was only an IV medication. He was very ill and in a coma for 3 days. He had C. diff. again when he was 11. I've had C. diff. twice -- the first time for 4 years. It ain't no fun!

Cute bottom, huh? C. diff. hasn't hurt your powers of observation!

OMG! And I thought I was doing bad at five months of total hell. When the specialist asked me what I did for a living, I told her "I warm a toilet seat".... I think she got the message. Anyways, there's nothing wrong with my eyes, or my sense of humour, so far! The toxin is in the bowel, not the brain, at this point. I still say he had a cute butt! Oh how I tried to give him s _ _ t, but he just wouldn't take it. Is your child alright now? I sure hope so! I hate to see children suffering. I wish you both luck in your struggle to fight this demon. I am determined. I WILL win!! My eyes are no longer brown (they are now green but I don't know if that is envy of normalcy or just the colour of the Tidy Bowl water), does this tell you how much I have lost in five months? Along with ummmm let's see, 25 lbs. the first time, 5 lbs. the second time, and 13 lbs. so far this time.
